This project is another of my past projects that I have created throughout my Creative Technologies degree at the University of Regina. For the class, we had to make a technology that was wearable, using different products and coding software (Arduino).
For my project, I wanted to look at creating something that I could use in my everyday life. So based on a project that I saw on the Adafruit website for a controller pillow, I decided to make a piece of clothing be functional as a video game controller.
I ended up with the decision to create a controller that sat on top of the pocket of a hoodie. That way, the clothings pocket could still be functional, and it would be easy to put on and take off. I also thought that a hoodie would be easiest to transform into a controller, since the user can put their hands in the pockets, sticking their thumbs out to be able to use the controller.
Here are some of my initial sketch of what I wanted the layout of the project to look like:
And here is a photo of the work in progress:
Finally, To see the project working, check out this video:
Overall this project was a big learning curve. I haven’t worked with this technology before, so I had learn how to connect everything properly. I also had to work with coding, which I haven’t done too much in the past. Overall, I like the overall finished look of the product and I am happy with the project.
